The first visitors to this area were ancient Indian bands who hunted bighorn sheep along the river corridor. These people lived and migrated through this region in small family units and preceded the mountain men who trapped beaver during the fur-trading era. Although times have changed, the spirit of this land hasn’t. Your adventure begins 5 miles outside of Yellowstone National Park in the Shoshone National Forest. The Northfork will transport you back in time where it is not hard to imagine the Cody Country of 100 years ago. Each bend in the river brings a new breathtaking vista. Watch playful bighorn sheep on cliffs, a cow moose with her calf grazing along the river’s edge, or an eagle soaring against a sapphire blue Wyoming sky. You will feel the thrill of anticipation as you round the bend in the river above Morman Creek Rapids and descend down a long shoot of churning whitewater. These are but a few of the scenes that will remain with you long after your vacation is over. At trip’s end, you will dine on ham, turkey breast, fresh-baked bread, assorted fruits, chips, and a beverage.
This trip is floated on the Shoshone National Forest and starts 5 miles from Yellowstone National Park. Wyoming River Trips is the only company with a permit to be on this river section on the forest.
